Licensed Restaurant
In the beautiful Bann Valley, on the South Derry/Antrim border, this well known restaurant is in the centre of
Kilrea in an elegant mid terrace town house.
Following its closure in 2006, local chef Barry Dallat took on the challenge and is earning a well-deserved following for good cooking, a relaxing ambience and value for money. Inside it is a characterful place, with a series of intimate dining rooms on two storeys, open fires, a bar and lounge, and an attractive roof garden (complete with arbutus tree) which Barry added recently and is ideal for aperitifs and smokers.
Traditional decore, low lighting and gentle background music create a relaxing atmosphere, and an extensive A la carte dinner menu offers a very wide choice, with no less than 17 main courses under various headings, including two vegetarian dishes. Prawn cocktail with passion fruit and mango sorbet, fillet steak with mature cheddar & Diane sauce, and fresh apple pie with crème anglaise are the kind of dishes to expect, along with a range of meat, poultry, fish dishes and traditional desserts. A reduced choice high tea menu is also available.
A well thought out selection of wines supplied by James Nicholson is in the £10-£35 range, and includes four half bottles.
Arbutus is a charming restaurant offering good value and a relaxing dining experience enhanced by professional friendly staff.
